I’ve been a Carbonite fan for years… but I know a good deal when I see one! In a bold marketing move, the increasingly popular CrashPlan service is giving users a free year of service if they switch from Carbonite!
I don’t know how long this offer is going to last, but I suspect it will end before the holiday season (which is approximately three weeks from now.) If you’re interested, check it out sooner rather than later.
The actual offer is $0 for one year of the basic service, or $50 for a year of the Family Unlimited plan (which allows you to backup multiple computers.) Both CrashPlan and Carbonite received favorable reviews here at PC Backup Review, so the choice between the two comes down to the fine details of exactly what you want (or don’t want) in a backup service.
Obviously, CrashPlan will point out what makes them a better choice than Carbonite. And if you need to back up multiple computers and place a high value on file versioning (keeping copies of each version of a saved file so you can always come back to them,) CrashPlan seems like the way to go. And of course, you’re getting unlimited backup and other basic features as well.
Regardless of my personal preferences, how can you pass up a deal like this?! The only real catch is that the offer is only available to residents of the US.
